Candidate questions - Fed Election 2025
Posted on April 4, 2025
With a federal election being called for April 28, IUOE 955 with assistance from IUOE Canadian Office has developed the below questions you can ask candidates in your area to help you make an informed decision at the ballot box.
Questions below:
What is your view on the current Union Training and Innovation Program ("UTIP")? Do you think there is a need to adjust its scope or funding approach; for example, in areas like program funding levels, eligibility for brick-and-mortar projects, or the structure of funding agreements?
What role, if any, do you believe Community Benefits Agreements ("CBAs") and Project Labour Agreements ("PLAs") should play in federally funded infrastructure projects?
What is your position on how to best support labour mobility for skilled trades workers across Canada? Would your approach include maintaining certification standards, providing housing supports, or adjusting tax rules related to travel, meals, and relocation?
How do you view the current use of Temporary Foreign Workers in the construction sector? Do you see any need for changes to the program, and if so, what kinds of measures should be considered?
What is your perspective on current apprenticeship loans and grants? Are there changes you would explore to better support apprentices, such as adjustments to loan or grant amounts, greater flexibility for repayment terms, or assistance for obtaining Red Seal certification?
